Quick Stats

Overview
The QuickStats program is designed to perform a quick a easy analysis of an http server transfer log. This is the same program that is used in the AIT cpanel under the heading "Graphical Statistics Analyzer." This copy of the program is written so our server2 clients can offer on-demand log analysis to their virtual host customers without giving them access to the cpanel.
The following new features to the QuickStats program for virtual hosts:
1) You can select HTML or Plain Text output. If you choose text, the program will generate a formatted text document with no more than 80-characters per line, suitable for pasting into your favorite email program. HTML output is the same as before, of course.

2) You can provide the full path to an output file. If you give a filename, all of the results (HTML or plain text) will be dumped to that file, if possible. The program is written to not allow the your clients to overwrite an existing file, so the file given must not exist beforehand. (thus we avoid problems with someone asking the program to overwrite a configuration file.) If you do not provide a filename, the program writes to the browser window, just like it always did.

Readme

The Readme file contains detailed installation instructions and usage notes. You should read this through and keep it by you when setting up or installing the program. It is probably not a bad idea to print it out.

Self-Extracting CGI Program

This is an experimental program that might be easier to use than installing the program by hand. This program will automatically install all the files for you in the right places and with the correct permissions. Here's how you use it:
  1. Save this file from your browser.
  2. FTP install.pl to your cgi-bin directory, using ASCII transfer mode
  3. Use your cpanel to make the file executable (you might run it through the Perl Syntax Checker as well.)
  4. Call the program in your browser, the URL should be something like http://yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/install.pl
  5. The program will extract the necessary files into your account. It will tell you if it has trouble at any point. When it is done, it will give you a link to the installed script, so you can test it out. It will also tell you which transfer logs you have setup on your server, and it will give you a link to the instructions on how to setup the logs for your virtual hosts.
  6. When you have tested the installation, be sure to remove the install.pl program from your server. You no longer need it.
The Files
>Important! You will need to use your browser's "Save Link As" function to download these files. Under netscape you can hold the shift key down and click on the link to force the browser to save the file. Or, you can click on the link with the right mouse button which will bring up a menu, then choose "Save Link As.."

>qstat.zip
This file is a zip archive of all of the QuickStats files. After downloading, you can unzip this file on your local machine and upload the files individually to your server.
